Nebraska Hearing Aid Banks

Nebraska Hearing Aid Banks

How to Access Hearing Aids in Nebraska

The Nebraska Hearing Aid Bank (HAB) connects eligible Nebraskans with refurbished hearing aids through three statewide programs. While the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NCDHH) no longer processes applications, we remain committed to supporting individuals throughout the process by answering questions and connecting you to the right services.

Program Options

Eligibility is based on age. The three hearing aid bank programs are now centrally managed by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) at the Barkley Memorial Center:

HearU Nebraska

Provides hearing aids to children ages 0–18, with priority to newly identified children ages 0–3.

Lions Hearing Aid Bank

  • Provides refurbished monaural or binaural BTE hearing aids to individuals ages 19–64.
  • Earmolds are dispensed through a provider and billed directly to the patient.
  • In special cases, and with prior approval, the Lions Club may assist with out-of-pocket expenses.

Sertoma Hearing Aid Bank

  • Provides one refurbished behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aid to individuals age 65 or older.
  • A second hearing aid may be purchased for $100.
  • Earmolds are dispensed through a provider and billed directly to the patient.

Application Process Update – Effective July 1, 2025

As of July 1, 2025, the Nebraska Hearing Aid Banks, housed at UNL’s Barkley Memorial Center, now serve as the centralized hub for all applications, processing, orders, and communications related to the Sertoma, Lions, and HearU programs.

UNL now handles:

  • Receiving and processing all applications and order forms
  • Communicating with applicants and providers
  • Processing repairs and donations
  • Supporting applicants and families throughout the process

NCDHH no longer processes applications but is still available to answer questions about eligibility, connect you to providers, and help you navigate the process.
