Dr. Regan Thibodeau, a Deaf native of Maine who began her education on Mackworth Island, currently teaches ASL and ITPat University of Southern Maine and works as a freelance interpreter. Regan also is a consultant working to bring to othersthe deaf perspective as a stakeholder in any arena possible. In addition to her stakeholder role in various situations such aslegislation for LEAD-K, consulting for New York DOE and their interpreting teams, Regan has over 13+ years of K12interpreting experience in the schools. This led to the publication of a chapter in Educational Interpreting textbook aboutDeaf and Hearing Teams in K12 Settings- a first of its kind.
WORKSHOP DETAILS: Topics for discussions and activities will cover content from the following: K12, medical, live broadcasting,presentation/performances, translation, and so on. The workshop is conducted in ASL- however activities will include feedback on both signing and voicing interpretations to help all develop skills in feed, economy of words, management of communication dynamics, and discourse mapping. TRAINERS EXPERIENCE:The trainer and participants will be able to engage in pre- and post- discussions using the modified DCS framework, Cokley's Miscues, CASLI's Job Task Outline, RID's CPC, and NAIE's CPC.PARTICIPANTS:This workshop is for Deaf and Hearing interpreters who are currently licensed in Nebraska, as well as Deaf Interpreters who are unlicensed. The requirement is the ability to participate in a workshop lead in ASL (there will be voicing practice opportunities during the role-play and activities) thus the primary language of communication and education will be in ASL. Voiced interpretation of the workshop will not be provided.ACCOMMODATIONS:Interpretek is an approved RID Sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. This Professional Studies (PS) program is offered for 1.8 RID CEUs at some content knowledge level or 18 clock hours toward Nebraska licensing requirements.
