Description:
Join the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (NCDHH) and The Joslyn Art Museum for a day celebrating art, access, and community. Deaf & Hard of Hearing Awareness Day showcases how communication access opens the world of art to everyone.
The event will begin with presentations from NCDHH, the Nebraska Association of the Deaf (NeAD) Mentor Program, and Nebraska Hands & Voices. Guests are then invited to take part in free, ASL-interpreted guided tours of the museum at 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM. Between tours, attendees can enjoy complimentary refreshments provided by NeAD’s Mentor Program and Nebraska Hands & Voices.
The Joslyn provides full communication access throughout the museum, including ASL interpreters, hearing loop induction systems for Hard of Hearing visitors, Bluetooth hearing aid connectivity in select areas, and more. NCDHH will also host a hands-on DE’VIA (Deaf View/Image Art) activity for all ages—an opportunity to express Deaf identity, culture, or one’s personal experience with hearing difference through art.
